Workspaces

A workspace is a body of knowledge: the documents of a project, a team or a client, with their own knowledge graph. Its members have a role:

Documents and sources

Documents come from uploads (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, Markdown, text, images) and connected sources (Google Drive folders, Notion pages and databases, GitHub repositories). Soma parses them with their structure (pages, tables, figures, equations), so an answer can point to the exact page and passage. A workspace can be split into named sub-scopes (for instance one per design review) to search a subset of its documents.

Knowledge graph

As documents are indexed, Soma extracts entities (components, standards, companies, requirements…) and the relations between them, with the passages that support each one. The graph powers questions that span many documents: what depends on X, which tests cover requirement Y. Workspace members can review and correct it in the app.

Answers and citations

When you ask, Soma’s agent searches the documents and the graph as many times as it needs, reads whole documents when a table or matrix is involved, then answers with [N] markers. Each N is a citation: the document, the page and the passage behind it. Questions belong to a thread, so you can follow up; threads also appear in the Soma app.

Access

Every way into Soma (app, MCP, CLI, API) sees the same thing: the workspaces you are a member of, with your role. Agents act as you, after you approve them, and you can disconnect them at any time in the app (Account settings).
